When adding and subtracting decimals do the following:

a) Line up the decimals.

b) Drop the decimal straight down.

c) Add or subtract the numbers.

If one of the numbers does not have a decimal, simply add one at the end of the whole number and then line up the deciamls.

Example: 24 + 5.6 =

Write as:

24.0

+5.6
