Changing Fractions Into Percentages

PERCENT

Fractions To Percent

When converting a fraction into a percentage...

Dividing the numerator by the denominator always works. The Denominator will always be your Divisor.

When changing a fraction which is not improper into a percentage by division, your answer will always be less than 1 such as 0.3 , 0.25 or 0.463

You can change your decimal into a percentage by simply moving the decimal two spaces to the right.

If you only wish to round to the nearest percentage(the hundredths place), you should divide no further than the 100ths place. You will use the value in the thousandths place to round to the nearest hundredths place.

Example: 0.358 ≈ 36%

0.684 ≈ 68%

Only when the denominator is a factor of 100 can you use equivalent fractions to change a fraction into a percentage.

Example: 4/5 ------>80/100 ----> 80%

Because the denominator of 5 goes into 100 exactly 20 times, simply multiply the numerator by 20 (4 x 20) to find the percentage.
